Discplinary Board of Pennsylvania Makes Address Change Process Easier for Attorneys
May 26, 2009
(Lemoyne, Pa.) - The Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania announces an improvement in the way Pennsylvania attorneys submit address changes. Now, attorneys are able to change their address by visiting the Web site, http://www.padisciplinaryboard.org/addressrequest/login2.php, and submitting the form online.
By providing attorneys with the ability to submit the information electronically, the Disciplinary Board is simplifying the process for attorneys, keeping up-to-date with current technology, and remaining cost efficient. Should attorneys not want to submit the information online, they still have the option to print and mail the form. The Disciplinary Board requires all address changes to be reported within 30 days of moving. In a four to six month period, the Disciplinary Board processes about 7,000 requests.
To access the form, attorneys are required to enter their attorney ID number and the last four digits of their social security number. For those using the online forms, information is submitted immediately.
“We are continually finding new ways to enhance the communications and administrative functions for attorneys and consumers. We are excited to provide a method that’s efficient for everyone involved,” Joe Farrell, Executive Director of the Disciplinary Board said.

Local Nonprofit Earns A Symbol of Trust
May 26, 2009
(Camp Hill, Pa.) – The Center for Independent Living of Central PA (CILCP), a non-profit organization that’s made up of and serves people with all types of disabilities has been awarded the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO) Seal of Excellence. After a lengthy and very involved process, CILCP was evaluated to determine its compliance with PANO’s Standards for Excellence: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector.
The Standards for Excellence is based on values such as honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibility, and accountability. All of the requirements needed to receive this honor go beyond the minimum legal requirements outlining how governed nonprofits should operate. CILCP’s programs and services, management, fundraising, and financial practices were reviewed extensively before the certification was awarded.
As a result of CILCP’s dedication to establishing and maintaining an organization of trust, CILCP can now display the Seal of Excellence. “We are proud to display the Seal of Excellence. We want the community to have confidence and trust in our organization. CILCP’s work on behalf of individuals with disabilities demonstrates our dedication to our cause and to meeting the highest standards of ethical practice,” Janetta Green, Director of Operations for CILCP said.
According to Joe Geiger, Executive Director of PANO, “Organizations that are successful in the certification program should be commended for their commitment to excellence and integrity. With every new organization that meets the Standards, we move one step closer to the day when the public feels confident that its nonprofit organizations are acting ethically.”
The first effort of its kind in the nation, the Standards for Excellence program was developed by a team of volunteers from Maryland’s nonprofit community. Pennsylvania, as well as five other states, offer this program.

Center for Independent Living of Central PA Receives Nonprofit Innovation Award
May 26, 2009
(Camp Hill, Pa.)—The Center for Independent Living of Central PA (CILCP) was recently recognized for its innovative program, Living Well With A Disability, at the Central Penn Business Journal’s 2009 Nonprofit Innovation Awards ceremony. CILCP, a nonprofit organization, which is made up of and serves people with all types of disabilities, won the award for the “Brand Identity/Unique Marketing Campaign” category.
The entries in the “Brand Identity/Unique Marketing Campaign” category were judged on factors such as: how innovative the campaign is; its purpose; how it furthers the mission of the organization; its benefits to the community; changes that have been brought because of it; its ability to be a model to other organizations; and results that weren’t anticipated.
In partner with Suasion, a marketing and communications firm focused on non-profits and social services, CILCP recognized they were challenged by the lack of understanding of the organization’s name. “With Suasion’s support, we understood that the “Center for Independent Living” is a phrase that few outside of the independent living arena understand. Relative to the number of people who could benefit from CILCP’s services, few were aware of our services,” stated Theo Braddy, Executive Director of CILCP.
In addition, most social services organizations are very program-focused, which is largely due to the way these organizations operate. CILCP is no different in this regard. Each program within the organization may operate fairly independently and not take advantage of the efficiencies and shared resources inherent in a more collaborative approach. As such, CILCP’s previous marketing efforts were largely made up of individual program managers acquiring new consumers for their own program, with little cross marketing or sharing of consumers between programs.
In an effort to communicate the organization in a way that resonated with their target audience, and to provide an umbrella that would attract people to all of its programs, a new brand identity and marketing campaign was developed: Living Well With A Disability - One Call. Countless Resources. Endless Opportunities. The unique concept describes exactly what CILCP supports people in doing, and provides a single point of entry for all of CILCP’s services and programs.
Living Well With A Disability is a one-stop resource designed to make sure all individuals with disabilities are living well. By calling a toll-free number (1-877-TO-LIV-WELL), an individual can arrange for a free Living Well With A Disability assessment. The assessment, conducted face-to-face by a Living Well specialist looks at all aspects of a person’s life including housing needs, transportation, employment, social life, hobbies and even dreams and aspirations. Following the assessment, a plan is prepared by the consumer with the assistance of a Living Well specialist. They identify areas of improvement, and outline resources and activities to achieve the consumer’s goals. The consumer is directed to the appropriate programs within CILCP for services in support of this plan. Outside resources are also recommended, as needed. This system ensures that all the appropriate services offered by CILCP are benefitting the consumer. It is a one-stop resource where no request is too large or too small.
The outcomes of the branding continue to exceed prior records. The number of CILCP consumers has increased by 330% in one year, and the program was recently launched by Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Center for Independent Living.
