Local Nonprofit Earns A Symbol of Trust

CILCP\'s President, Tucker Hill and Director of Operations, Janetta Green proudly accept the PANO award.(Camp Hill, Pa.) – The Center for Independent Living of Central PA (CILCP), a non-profit organization that’s made up of and serves people with all types of disabilities has been awarded the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO) Seal of Excellence. After a lengthy and very involved process, CILCP was evaluated to determine its compliance with PANO’s Standards for Excellence: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector.

The Standards for Excellence is based on values such as honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibility, and accountability. All of the requirements needed to receive this honor go beyond the minimum legal requirements outlining how governed nonprofits should operate. CILCP’s programs and services, management, fundraising, and financial practices were reviewed extensively before the certification was awarded.

As a result of CILCP’s dedication to establishing and maintaining an organization of trust, CILCP can now display the Seal of Excellence. “We are proud to display the Seal of Excellence. We want the community to have confidence and trust in our organization. CILCP’s work on behalf of individuals with disabilities demonstrates our dedication to our cause and to meeting the highest standards of ethical practice,” Janetta Green, Director of Operations for CILCP said.

According to Joe Geiger, Executive Director of PANO, “Organizations that are successful in the certification program should be commended for their commitment to excellence and integrity. With every new organization that meets the Standards, we move one step closer to the day when the public feels confident that its nonprofit organizations are acting ethically.”

The first effort of its kind in the nation, the Standards for Excellence program was developed by a team of volunteers from Maryland’s nonprofit community. Pennsylvania, as well as five other states, offer this program.
